Automotive systems

The goal is to address control issues in automotive applications using advanced control techniques. Specifically, we deal with:

(i) development of control-based strategies to reduce noise and vibrations caused by electric actuators;

(ii) improvement of the stability of the in-vehicle electrical micro-grid;

(iii) sensorless control algorithms for permanent magnet electrical machines used in electric vehicle powertrains;

(iv) analysis of the control limits of permanent magnet electrical machines when controllers are implemented in digital platforms with confined sampling periods, aiming at improving the electrical, and thus mechanical, speed of electric vehicles;

(v) vehicle dynamics: stability control of vehicles with “in-wheel” based electrical powertrains;

(vi) traffic flow analysis and further development of cooperative adaptive-based cruise control strategies.
